Small but smart kitchens

July 24Kitchen
Is there anything better than coming home, enjoying a good meal and relaxing? Everything revolves around the kitchen, no matter how much space it has. We show you three kitchens measuring between 5 and 8 square metres that are extremely easy to use, with loads of storage space, thanks to clever cabinet solutions.

Compact and space-saving

India is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. Space is especially limited in cities, and it's a real challenge to find a suitable place to live. We visited a young family who have achieved their dream of a home of their own. The highlight of the family's home is their kitchen by Pravisree-Home Definer. Measuring just 8 square metres, it is a real storage space wonder.

Home owner Swapna Sankar is full of enthusiasm: "Solutions like the AVENTOS wall cabinet lift system are terrific. I leave the cabinet open while I'm cooking so I can quickly get to everything I need." She also loves the practical SPACE TWIN narrow pull-out and SPACE CORNER solution.

We have a really functional kitchen that makes cooking fun.
Swapna Sankar is also very pleased with the praise she has received from her family: "My mother has always been very critical about kitchens. After visiting us she told everyone that she liked my kitchen so much that she wanted to take all the pull-outs home with her. Well, that really convinced me!"

Home sweet home in a high-rise

Sergei Shcherbakov and his wife Ljudmila bought an apartment in a 17-storey building. The civil engineer from Russia particularly liked the location of the high-rise building, which is in the middle of a green area and close to his family. The heart of the flat is the eight-square-metre kitchen. The young couple teamed up with a cabinet maker they know to plan the kitchen and translate their ideas into action. They opted to use practical AVENTOS lift systems for the wall units, and drawers with Blum box systems for their base cabinets.

State-of-the-art technology and enhanced user convenience were very important to Ljudmila: "We love to cook, and things are quicker and easier if your kitchen's well equipped. Thanks to the solutions from Blum, I love using my kitchen!"

Kitchens for multiple generations

The Gao family found their new home in a residential area of the Qingpu district, a suburb of Shanghai. The streets here are spotless and a boulevard lined with tall trees wends its way in front of the buildings. As is common in China, three generations – grandparents, parents and son – live together and share a maisonette apartment measuring just under 100 square metres in the modern residential complex. Mrs Gao and her mother often prepare meals together for their family of five. Their U-shaped kitchen and well-organised drawers are a great help when cooking.

We each have enough space to work in, and we know where everything is stored.
Mrs Gao had always wanted a kitchen in her favourite colour, and she's created her dream kitchen in a space measuring just under 5 square metres. "Red is the colour of joy and happiness in China, and I love it!"

All advantages at a glance:

  • Simply leave wall cabinet fronts with our AVENTOS lift system open while cooking, to quickly reach what you need.

  • Practical and narrow, SPACE TWIN pull-out fits in any gap.

  • Everything in easy reach – this is the big advantage of a small kitchen.

  • Neatly organised drawers ensure everyone in the family can find what they need.
